True Rwandan customer service!

When you’re an international volunteer working with a dozen or more schools in your District reliable, affordable transport is essential as Jane Czornowol from the UK explains.

“If you are ever in Musanze District and want a moto call this one!  I met Mathais Mpiranya in September 2011 when I arrived as a VSO (Voluntary Service Overseas – UK) volunteer in Rwanda.  I use him most days to transport me to schools.  When I first arrived he took me to the schools, introduced me to the head teachers, translated for me, and often waited in some very remote locations for me so that I could have my meetings before returning back to the town.”

"My handbag got stolen in April last year, Mathias was the first person I turned to for help.  He helped me to get new keys for my house, a new phone, modem and airtime. He took me to the Police station and was so helpful.  When my friends from the UK came and tried to pay him too much for a short journey from the town to my house (usually 300Rwf – they gave him 6000Rwf!!)  he could not take advantage of them – but politely informed them of their mistake and gave them the right change. “

Honest, trustworthy and reliable.  He always gives 110% above and beyond the call of duty.  At one school where library shelving units lacked any dividers (photo below left), true to form Mathias set to work making some!  This is true Rwandan customer service.  Jane would like to nominate him as a star moto driver and definitely one to be recommended.  He also has the most wonderful Rwandan smile!
